Stabilising an EIFS base coat for a Middle East insulation contractor

High ambient temperature was shortening the working time of the base coat, making mesh embedment inconsistent across large facade areas.

Worker embedding reinforcement mesh into render on a facade

Background

The contractor applied base coat in afternoon temperatures above 38 °C. Material was drying at the edge of the panel before the mesh could be fully embedded, leaving weak zones that had to be reworked.

What was tested

The formulation was adjusted in two directions: a cellulose ether grade with slower water release, and a polymer powder dosage increase to maintain flexibility. Trials were run on site panels rather than in the laboratory alone.

Outcome

Working time improved enough to complete a full panel in one pass. The change was documented as a seasonal formulation variant rather than a permanent replacement.

This note is illustrative. It describes a typical formulation situation rather than a named client engagement. Confirm the applicable grade and dosage with trial batches before production.
